시청각은 2020년 7월 17일부터 8월 30일까지 김동희, 장영규의 «홀(HALL)»을 개최한다. «홀(HALL)»은 두 작가의 작업과 프로젝트를 전시하는 전시의 이름이다. 또 이를 위해 제공된 물리적 공간의 상태를 이르는 시공간이다. 또 여름이면 전시를 이루는 시간을 휙 돌려 조금 더 어두운 시간까지 전시하고 바깥 공기를 감상하려던 반쯤 닫힌 강당이다.
«홀(HALL)» 작가 김동희는 세 개의 창문을 가진 구조물에 응대하는 구조물 ‹Sequence Type: 1› 을 배치한다. 구조물을 타고 넘어가 앉는 자리에서 관객은 장영규가 «홀(HALL)»을 위해 만든 세 피스의 사운드를 만난다. 또 김동희가 제공(제시)하는 공간 어딘가에 잠시 멈춰 설명할 필요 없다는 점에서 ‘대명사 같은’, 장영규의 소리를 들을 수 있다. 세 편의 사운드는 각각 6분 6초의 ‹AVP HALL›이다. 세 점의 소리가 바깥으로 보이는 것들과 상대한다. 자신이 설계한 구조물을 덧붙이고 덧씌우는 방식으로 작업을 해왔던 김동희는 시스템을 규격화하며 가변적인 상황들을 구조화한다. 홀수, 기본적인 도형들, 좌대와 본체의 관계를 재설정하는 김동희의 공간-제작에는 타인이 들어왔다 나간다. 김동희가 설정한 레이어의 관계를 움직이거나 멈춘 관객은 자신의 몸을 사용해 기술적으로 경험한다.
«홀(HALL)»에서 음악가 장영규는 세 개의 창문 바깥으로 보이는 것들을 보고 사운드를 만들었다. 구 팔복교회의 물리적 건물이었던 이곳 1층에는 세 개의 창문이 있다. 세 개의 창문 바깥은 겨울에서 여름으로, 알 수 없는 벽돌에서 교회 십자가를 가리는 나무의 몸통을 채우고 있다. 이것을 전시, 풍경, 2020년 여름이라고 부르기에는 너무 단순하니 새로운 이름을 찾아보자.

Audio Visual Pavilion (AVP) is hosting HALL by Donghee Kim and Young-gyu Jang from July 17 to August 30, 2020. HALL is the title of the exhibition which will feature works and projects by the two artists. It is also a space & time that forms the state of the physical space provided for the exhibition. Further, it is a half-closed auditorium where the audience can appreciate the outside air and where exhibition times are changed to host exhibitions until a darker time during the summer season.
Donghee Kim places structures Sequence Type: 1, that correspond to the structure with three windows. From the place where the audience sits once climbing over the structures, and met with three sound pieces composed for the HALL by Jang. Additionally, the audience can listen to Jang’s musical pieces ‘like pronoun’ as there is no need to pause and listen to explanations in the space provided (offered) by Kim. Kim generally opts for a way of attaching and covering with his structures, standardizes his system and structuralizes variable standards. Others come and go in Kim’s space-construction, which reconfigured the relationship among odd numbers, basic figures, pedestal, and main body. Audiences who are moving or stopped can technically experience the relationship of the layers set by artist with their body.
Young-gyu Jang made sounds by observing what is seen through the three windows. There are three windows on the first floor of this building, which was previously used as a physical building of (old) Palbok Church. The scenery outside of the three windows is filled with the bricks that cannot distinguish the season from winter to summer and the trunk of a tree that blocks the Christian cross. This is too simple to call it an exhibition, landscape, or summer of 2020, so let’s all try to look for a new name.
♣ It is advisable for attendees to bring their own earphones or wireless earphones. HALL also has headsets prepared.
♣ During the period of HALL, the AVP lab will be displaying interview scripts of Donghee Kim × Ye-ji Kim along with Seewon Hyun’s reviews on the 3 Volumes exhibition.
