Audio Visual Pavilion will hold the exhibition On Your Mark by Eunjoo Hong and Hyungjae Kim from February 17th to March 13rd, 2021. This is the first exhibition of Eunjoo Hong and Hyungjae Kim, who have been working together as duo graphic designers as have also worked on their own. In On Your Mark, the two acquire new paths and records by deliberately generating movements of objects for exhibition. Prints, including books and brochures designed by two, are reduced to form a poster spread out on a single plane or as a different material by being tied together.
 
The two of On Your Mark recontextualize the AVP Lab’s exhibition space into a diagram representing the trajectory of 10 years of work. Eunjoo Hong and Hyungjae Kim ask what 10 years can be reproduced into instead of a detailed record of what he has done in 10 years. At this time, ‘10 years’ is again mirrored with another time they prepared for On Your Mark. Directly speaking, it is the time of the objects that arrived at them by the preparation-instruction-command of the smartphone held in these two characters’ hands. The exhibition space walls, the three windows, the white wall again, and the newly made white table become tangible and intangible screens that these two unfold separately and together. Like “(We) were in a position to struggle to understand both media by being sandwiched between paper and screen,” said Hyungjae Kim. The two take a method of simultaneously moving the 10 years of their design work, the exhibition space of AVP Lab, and Seoul’s speed.
 
Eunjoo Hong and Hyungjae Kim generate the exhibition through shopping, research, and looking back on past works. The objects they chose (shopping) and the list of excerpted information are again arranged in the coordinates they created through the exhibition. We now see techniques such as beginning and ending, details and records, evaporation, and so on. In the exhibition hall, they appear to have “floated” information in the air, not on the screen or on a single page. Let’s pause for a moment in front of the words, “If you look at the exhibition hall from above, it will be a circular structure where the beginning and the end are interlocked” (Eunjoo Hong’s memo). Eunjoo Hong has developed a method of replacing or comparing visuality and materiality with specific objects or situations in each website production process. It is a practice and exercise for each one, including myself, who visited the exhibition. Is it a test of converting something into my language? In On your Mark, there is also a city where two people walked and worked.
